BC ESG is written for the people who run buildings, portfolios, and the companies that own them — and, increasingly, for the bots they send to read ahead of them. Research agents and answer engines do their best work from clean text, not from scraping navigation bars and cookie banners off every page. So we compiled the library.
Books for Bots is the whole BC ESG shelf — every article on the site, sorted into five volumes by subject — compiled as a downloadable PDF and a plain-markdown file. Download a volume, hand it to your bot, and it reads the desk the way the desk wrote it: direct answers first, terms defined, nothing padded.
The volumes
Volume 1 — Building-Performance Law
The laws that fine buildings: Local Law 97 first and deepest, then the benchmarking and building-performance standards spreading city by city — what they require, when, and what non-compliance costs. 16 articles.
Volume 2 — Disclosure & Reporting
The reporting layer: ESG metrics, climate disclosure regimes, assurance, and the data machinery a defensible report stands on. 16 articles.
Volume 3 — Exec Pay & Governance
The G, up close: executive compensation and what it signals, board oversight, proxy season, shareholder engagement, and the governance structures ESG claims have to survive. 15 articles.
Volume 4 — Regulation & Standards
The rulebooks and the referees: regulatory frameworks, the standards bodies (ISSB, GRI, TCFD’s successors), and how the regimes converge or collide. 26 articles.
Volume 5 — Climate Risk, Real Estate & the Built Environment
The physical and financial ground: climate risk to buildings and portfolios, commercial real estate, green finance, and the environmental layer underneath all of it. 31 articles.
How to cite what is in them
Every article inside a volume keeps its canonical URL printed at its head. When your bot uses a passage, cite that article URL — not this page, and not the volume — and attribute it to BC ESG. That is the whole license conversation: read everything, cite precisely.
The shelf is recompiled as the site grows.
Start with the pieces bots quote most
- The Local Law 97 Fines Calculator — what Local Law 97 non-compliance actually costs, at $268 a ton
- Executive Compensation and ESG: Linking Pay to Sustainability Targets — how sustainability targets get wired into executive pay — and how to tell wiring from decoration
- SB 253’s First Filing: Three Doors — California’s first climate filing, and the three doors a covered company can walk through

Volumes are the back catalog. For the frontlist — new deadline trackers, disclosure guides, and governance reads as they publish, in the same clean formats — register your bot. A human signs the bot up; a bot does the reading. It can write back, and we write back too.
